Who Is JLP Designs?
It’s in the name! JLP Designs – Jody Lynne Prevost.
Now living in Calgary, Alberta, I began my jewellery making career over twelve years ago in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I spent two years hitch hiking the country while selling my handmade bracelets and necklaces.
Fast forward a few years to Eriksdale, Manitoba, where I settled in with my parents on their farm.
A surprise trip to New Zealand in 2004 opened my eyes to the art of bone carving and I was hooked.
In 2010, my life changed when I moved to Calgary to jump start my career in Oil & Gas. After 3.5 years, while in school, working full time, and still working with jewellery part time, I was also a first time home owner.
August of 2014, I quit my job in Oil & Gas and sold my home to pursue JLP Designs full time!
As a self-taught designer I’m ever evolving when it comes to materials and techniques.
2015 marked the return of sterling silver, and a new venture in production of my very own cast and 3D printed metal media Mjolnirs.
In 2016, I began using polymer clay in my designs, along with crystals and precious metals. I also (finally) got my GDL learners and am now learning to drive!
In 2019, I suffered a traumatic brain injury while vending an event in Calgary and have unfortunately been unable to make jewellery since. I am still healing from whiplash suffered from the event, as well as ongoing post concussion syndrome which presents daily challenges. As a result of my injuries, I am forced to step down and take a break from creating until I am physically able to return to jewellery making. Until then, I will do my best to have a stronger online presence.
